1 photo/day 1,054: We’re here in Brazzaville for our second screening tomorrow, hoping to find candidates for surgery. Today we got our first view of the Congo river, and neighboring the capital of neighboring DRC, Kinshasa. That city contains more than twice as many people as this entire country. And it’s just a short canoe ride away. Be sure to check @mercyships tomorrow for regular updates! #mscongo #congo #mercyships #africa (at Brazzaville)
1 photo/day 1,015: when the surgeon you’re filming is too tall, steal a chair from a nearby nurse. This should solve most problems while only creating one new one (angry nurse).
The team from France 24 left today, and while we had a great time together I’m sure they’re ready for two weeks sleeping in their own beds (before they head to Seattle, go #UpperLeftUSA!). They were a really strong and adaptable team, and I got a little polish on my French over the last week.
I’ll be sure to link to their piece as soon as it becomes available (in English, French, and Arabic). There are even bigger names to come, just you wait. #mscongo #africa #hospital #tv #behindthescenes (at Hôpital Général de Loandjili)
1 photo/day 1,006: our final day of filming with the visiting documentary team before we call it a wrap. This was my first group, and though it was a bit hectic, it really was a good time. I can’t tell you who they were commissioned by yet, but I can tell you they were hilarious. Now to sleep for a few days straight… #mscongo #behindthescenes #africa (at Africa Mercy)
1 photo/day 989: our first dental screening of the year drew a few hundred people. Over the course of the next nine months they expect to serve thousands. It’s pretty amazing to see the line deteriorate over a couple of hours of waiting, only to see it reassembled perfectly in under a minute. No squabbling. Everyone knew their place. #mscongo #africa #medical (at Mercy Ships HOPE Center)
